A Journey through NYC Religions is an online magazine that explores, documents and explains the religious changes that are taking place in New York City. Reporters travel down all 6,374.9 miles of the city streets to every church, mosque, synagogue and religious site to map, photograph and interview clergy and lay leaders.

Conceived by Editor and Publisher Tony Carnes, the magazine has been featured on PBS Television, The New York Times, and The Washington Post

Garrett has been a freelance reporter for the magazine since 2011. Among his articles include a five-part series on the controversial NYPD surveillance of Muslims (part 1 linked), a progressive dinner church called St. Lydia's, a tribute to the FDNY Chaplains of 9/11 and a profile on Congregation Beit Simchat Torah and Senior Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum's activism with LGBTQ homeless youth

In 2013, A Journey received a nomination for the Gerald A. Renner Enterprise Religion Report of the Year for its ten part series on Harlem. Garrett's article Spirituality in East Harlem Spa was among the articles in the series.
